What is Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a standard that has been developed by a group of electronics
manufacturers. It is based on a low-cost, short-range radio link, Bluetooth can
connect many types of digital devices such as computers and mobile phones,
without a single cable in sight - giving you more freedom to roam about freely.
As Bluetooth utilizes a radio-based link, it does not require a line-of-sight
connection in order to communicate with devices... something needed when using
an Infra-red connection (IrDA). You could be using your laptop in one room and
send a document to print, to the printer in another room some distance away.
To establish a connection, two Bluetooth-equipped devices simply have to come
within a 10 meter range of each other.
The BlueTake Poke2 Bluetooth USB Adapter:
Chances are that your current computer or laptop does not have any
Bluetooth technology incorporated into its design. As Bluetooth becomes more
popular, most manufacturers will most likely start incorporating the technology
into their designs, until that time users wishing to adopt the technology will
need products like the BlueTake Poke2 Bluetooth USB Adapter.
The Poke2 allows you to simply convert your computer or laptop into a
Bluetooth-equipped device, ready for communication with other Bluetooth-equipped
devices...

Included in the package...
Included in the colourful package
is the adapter itself, a 'Quick Setup' guide, warranty card and a software CD.
The CD contains everything that you will need to get up and running with the
Poke2.
As well as the Bluetooth Software Driver and .PDF user guides, the supplied CD
also includes a copy of Symantec WinFax Pro 10.0 and a trial version of
WinRoute Lite - a router software that Microsoft Windows 98SE
users will need to make use of.

Supplied CD of goodies.
The warranty card states that
BlueTake will provide a Limited Warranty for the Poke2 for a period of two years
from the date of purchase. This is a nice extra as most manufactures only
provide a one year warranty. If you have any defects with the product within two
years - just get in contact with BlueTake.
Your first thought once you have the Poke2 in your hand is 'size'. Measuring
only 61x23x10mm and weighing in at a mere 16g, the Poke2 is one small,
lightweight device - building on the 'freedom' idea of Bluetooth.
Being so small, the Poke2 is ideal for laptop users and the like, I believe this
is the type of user that BlueTake is aiming the Poke2 towards - business and
normal users that are always on the move with their laptops.
Of course, it is still suitable for desktop computer usage - being so small, it
can just be plugged in and will remain out of sight and not be an eyesore.

The reverse has MAC address printed etc...
Setting Up:
With the Poke2 NOT plugged into the computer (the Poke2 must not be
plugged until software installation is completed), the supplied CD is inserted.
An auto-run menu system greets the user:

Auto-menu system for installation of drivers
and software.
Installation is clearly detailed
in the supplied 'Quick Start' guide and is powered by the familiar
InstallShield Wizard interface and so installation of the drivers and
software is a simple step-by-step process.
In the 'Device Name' column you can fill in a name to identify your computer
with. The name that you provide gives distinct identification of your computer
when it interacts with other Bluetooth devices, so it is useful to choose a
descriptive name for future reference.

Found New Hardware Wizard.
Once the software installation is
finished, a reboot is required and now is the time to plug in the Poke2 into a
spare USB port or USB hub... once you computer boots into Windows, the 'Found
New Hardware' wizard will find the Poke2 and proceed to finalize the Bluetooth
driver install.

Installation completed, New Bluetooth icon...
There now should be two new
Bluetooth icons, one on the desktop 'My Bluetooth Places' and one on the
taskbar.

Poke2 plugged into a USB hub & Laptop USB
port...
A neat feature of the Poke2, is a
bright blue LED that lights up when the
Poke2 has power and is in use... much better than a boring green LED. As well as
looking good, it serves as a indication of a working connection.
