The Nokia 6220 Mobile
Phone |
Nokia 6220 Tri-Band Mobile Phone
The stylish Nokia 6220 is the world's first phone that supports the EDGE
protocol. EDGE stands for Enhanced Data rate for GSM Evolution and is a new high
speed data connection, similar to GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) yet
providing theoretical transmission speed of up to 118.4 Kbps - which is twice as
fast as any GPRS connection at present.
Primarily aimed at the business user, the Nokia 6220 sports an integrated
digital camera, capable of recording short movies as well as still pictures for
multimedia messaging use, a WAP 2.0 XHTML browser for full-colour interface and
richer graphical content, email functionality, pre-installed Java™ applications
(such as Portfolio Manager), an extensive calendar, a notes application which
lets users type notes of up to 3,000 characters and tri-band technology to allow
the phone to be used anywhere where a GSM 900/1800/1900 network is present.
The Nokia 6220 features 'Presence-enhanced contacts' - Presence will be a
familiar concept to those using Instant Messaging services and is a dynamic
profile of the phone user, visible to others and used to represent oneself,
share information and control services.
Presence is in essence to make your status available to other users and others
statuses are available to you. "Status" for example, may include your current
activity, user and device availability, communications preferences, location
etc...
This status can then be used for multiple purposes, e.g. to control your own
communication and to share relevant information with other users. For example, a
business user can change their current phone profile to 'Meeting' and advise
their colleagues to reach them by an SMS or MMS message, rather than a phone
call during this time.
As well as supporting EDGE, the Nokia 6220 also supports GPRS and HSCSD
(High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data) for high speed data transfer.
An integrated Infra-Red port and Pop-Port™ interface provides a local connection
for data transfer and synchronization using Nokia Data Suite. In addition,
SyncML allows for synchronization of personal data such as calendars and contact
information to be synchronized over the air between a handset and a remote
server.
The Wallet 2.0 application on the Nokia 6220, provides a virtual 'wallet' into
which the user can store sensitive information, such as payment card details and
username/passwords. Data inside the wallet is encrypted and protected with a
special access code that the phone user can define. The user can then later
retrieve the required information from the wallet, which will automatically fill
in the empty fields on a WAP page for instance.
Based on the Series 40 operating system, the Nokia 6220 has a familiar interface
and menu structure to other Series 40 models such as the Nokia 7210, 6610, 6100
and 7250i. The display on the Nokia 6220 is also the same as other Series 40
models, being 128 x 128 pixels in size and displaying 4096 colours on a
high-resolution, passive matrix colour display.
