I had already acquired the majority of the internal goodies and had chosen my hard drive, a 60Gb 5400RPM Maxtor. I had sourced a generic 32x CD-ROM from a friend, and already had a Duron 800 which was later replaced with an XP1800+. The memory I bought was 256Mb of OCZ PC2700.
When the shuttle arrived, I installed all the components and powered it up. I had originally intended to mount
both fans on the left hand side of the shuttle with black anodized wire grills,
but I later changed my mind.
I had planned to use a pentagonal shaped window on the top of the shuttle, in the rear left corner. Bearing in mind this was my first shuttle, after close examination I discovered that my original plan of a pentagonal window would not work. The window would only give a nice view of the CD-ROM drive and the two side intake fans would prevent any graphics upgrades from taking place. At this point the standard Sunon 80mm fan, however a good fan, was replaced with a nice Antec Tri-Light fan and the remaining fan was mounted inside as an intake. Mounting the fan on the cover would mean it would be difficult to open or close, so this seemed the only option at the time.
